2021 Ratings: The best universities for sciences
For those with a passion discovery and problem-solving, one of the many courses available in the field of science may be of interest. Some of the majors available in science include astronomy; biotechnology; chemistry; food science and technology; geology; marine science; medical science; meteorology; physics and zoology.
A double degree in science paired with something like education, engineering, law or business can expand employment opportunities, providing a back-up in a tough job market. If you are thinking of dabbling in something more vocational, note that universities vary in the extent to which they allow you to mix and match science subjects with those from other departments. On the other hand, there are also ‘applied’ courses available that can help to develop your career pathway.

There are over 580 undergraduate degrees and over 290 postgraduate courses in science listed on our course search. This month, we looked at the universities with undergraduate degrees in science that performed best in the categories of learner engagement, graduate salary and full-time employment.
This rating looks at the proportion of students who felt they were engaged with learning at their institution. It is based on the extent to which students felt prepared for study, had a sense of belonging at their institution, participated in discussions online or face-to-face, worked with other students, interacted with students outside of study and interacted with students different to them (including local students for international respondents). Bond University in Queensland ranked first with a satisfaction score of 92.1%, and The University of Notre Dame Australia in placed a second with a score of 81.9%.
This rating compares the median salary of graduates from different universities. Curtin University in Western Australia ranked first with a median graduate salary of $71,400 and Monash University in Victoria placed a second with a median salary of $65,400.
This rating compares the employment rates of graduates from different universities. It looks at the proportion of graduates who were employed full-time four months after completing their course. Charles Darwin University ranked first with an 80% full-time employment rate, while Charles Sturt University placed second with a score of 78.6%.
