This course is designed for people who have earned a tertiary degree in any discipline and are planning to work in the Australian human services and welfare sectors. This graduate certificate supports students to develop advanced empirical, theoretical and ethical knowledge for working with vulnerable people in our community. The course offers an employment pathway into the human services sector (aged care, disability care, youth work, community work, support work). The Graduate Certificate in Society and the Individual can also be used as a pathway to the Master of Social Work - Graduate Entry for those students who do not have a Social Sciences background.

Structure

Students complete four compulsory topics. These topics aim to provide a comprehensive body of theory and knowledge in the social sciences to form a foundation for gaining a professional qualification in social work at Masters Level.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must hold a degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
