The Master of Physiotherapy (subject to accreditation) is a two-year, graduate-entry degree leading to eligibility for registration as a physiotherapist in Australia. Innovative and practice-based in approach, the course's core areas of study include musculoskeletal, sport rehabilitation, neurological, orthopaedic and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, across the lifespan. The UTS Master of Physiotherapy prepares students for a rewarding career as a clinician with the skills to specialise in musculoskeletal, sport, neurological, paediatric, cardiorespiratory rehabilitation, academia or research.

Structure

This course comprises a total of 96 credit points. Students undertake a total of 12 6-credit-point subjects and four 6-credit-point clinical subjects. The course is an intensive two-year, full-time degree. In addition to coursework during sessions, students are required to undertake clinical placements during session and block clinical placements during mid-session breaks.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.Entry is competitive and assessment is based on grade point average (GPA). Applicants must have completed the following prerequisites at a tertiary level within the past 10 years: two human anatomy subjects (structural and functional)
  • One human physiology subject
  • One exercise physiology subject
  • One neuroscience subject
  • One psychology subject, and
  • One research methods subject

Recognition

This new course is in the advanced stages of accreditation by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. The accreditation process applies to all physiotherapy courses to ensure quality education and adherence with AHPRA requirements for registration as a physiotherapist in Australia. New courses must achieve accreditation prior to commencing the program.

Further information

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
