Associate Degree of Music

This program produces well-rounded musicians who can apply their skills in diverse musical areas. Performance studies across a range of musical genres include weekly expert individual tuition on the major instrument with regular solo and ensemble performance opportunities. Private tuition is provided in voice, piano, guitar and all instruments of the orchestra. The standard suite of historical, theoretical and technical music studies is complemented by studies in contemporary technologies, and career-based electives such as business in the performing arts. Specialist studies are layered with an exploration of a Christian worldview that supports personal and professional ethics and social responsibility.

Structure

Nested within the bachelor program, the associate degree offers individual tuition on the major instrument, regular solo and ensemble performance and critique, theory and analysis, composition, aural and keyboard studies, and a coverage of contemporary technologies including programs, software and recording. The performance focus features regular technical examinations and a public recital. The course also includes studies encouraging the integration of faith and values with professional life.

Study Pathways

Credit is awarded for equivalent previous studies and/or demonstrated equivalent prior learning. Graduates may complete a Bachelor of Music by the addition of a further year of study.
