Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing

This course is designed to encourage the development of a perioperative nurse who is able to provide holistic, patient-centered care during anesthesia, surgery and recovery. It promotes a deep understanding of complex perioperative issues as they relate to patient outcomes. The course combines theory and practice to meet the educational needs of clinicians working in diverse perioperative environments. The foundation subject highlights the practice and philosophies of perioperative nursing. Pre-, intra- and postoperative nursing assessment and care are explored in depth, as well as the broader aspects of technological issues associated with the surgical environment. Students may choose a relevant specialty in operating room nursing or anesthetic nursing depending on the area of specialization. Students will develop advanced nursing knowledge, clinical skills and judgement to facilitate best outcomes for perioperative patients.
