How to become a Library Technician
Library technicians assist librarians and other information managers to organise and control library and information systems. They are involved in all facets of library functions, including circulation, acquisitions and reference work. They usually work under the supervision of librarians, but may also supervise other staff.

Duties & Tasks of a Library Technician
Library technicians may perform the following tasks:
- Assist library visitors to find information
- Process and maintain new and existing library resources
- Maintain library records in library management systems
- Catalogue resources such as books, magazines, e-books and other digital information
- Conduct library tours and other appropriate training programmes
- Assist patrons with their use of audiovisual materials, online databases and internet services.
Working conditions for a Library Technician
The work done by library technicians varies with the size and type of library. In large libraries, they may specialise in one or more areas (cataloguing, online services or children's services, for example). They may also work in specialist libraries such as school, academic or corporate libraries.
