Taking care of yourself over the uni break
University holidays are in full swing and for most students, the first semester of 2018 won't commence until the start of March. This is asignificant amount of time away from the classroom and though many studentswill spend this period working, it's important to use the break wisely from apersonal perspective.
The mental health of people has never been more closelyscrutinised, resulting in a population that is becoming increasingly aware of theimportance of wellbeing. These four tips are just some ways you can ensureyou're in a decent state of mind over the holidays.
Plan the year ahead
Get a head start on the year ahead by identifying some keygoals. These could be associated with study or something more personal - perhaps developing a budget and sticking to that, or training for an athletic pursuit. This is something that become very difficult to do once semester one inunderway, so it's best to put it all down on paper prior to the New Year.Â
Exercise regularly
Whether you're a gym junkie or a couch potato by nature, theDecember-February period is arguably the toughest period of the year tomotivate yourself to exercise. The mercury is often well over 30 degrees, sorunning can be a bit of a chore. However, there are plenty of other ways tokeep fit without melting - swimming is refreshing, most gyms are airconditioned and even walking the dog can turn into a workout.
Look after your mental health
The end of the year is such a busy time and in between anentanglement of work, study and social engagements, it's easy to becomeoverwhelmed. Give yourself a mental break during the holidays - read a bookyou've always wanted to, spend a day with old friends and just generally takesome time to relax.
Try something new
It might require you to get out of your comfort zone or itmay not, but either way, giving something new a go should be a goal during theuni break. It could be literally anything, from experimenting with meditationor eating African food for the first time to visiting a place you've never beenbefore.
