The pros and cons of summer school
PROS
1. Make more progress in a year
Summer school is a great way to make more progress in your course during the year.
You could take one extra subject each summer while you study and finish a semester early.
2. Get back into the predesigned schedule
Sometimes studying for subjects doesn't always go perfectly. If a subject is particularly important, its a prerequisite, or its one of your compulsary subjects, letting it slip through the cracks isn't ideal.
Sumemr school can help you get back on track by taking those subjects. That way when you get back to autumn semester you are still at the same pace of study as a your classmates, and don't have to worry about your degree extending longer than you initially thought.
3. Lighter study load during the year
On the contrary, sometimes full-time study throughout the year can be a bit too much. If there are options to take some of your subjects during the summer, you could opt for a slightly less full timetable throughout the whole year and just have less breaks.
This could work well if you need to work more during the year.
CONS
1. Less rest
Studying during the summer expectedly comes with less rest during your summer break. You will have to trek into uni on hot summer days, and while there isn't uni on new years, you will have to be aware that you can't take a week off partying to your hearts content.
You still have assignments to complete and exams to sit.
2. Studying around holidays and new year
While your friends might be taking longer breaks and have less on you'll be in at uni studying for class, assignments and exams.
You may have to have extra meetings for any group assignments, or to go meet your tutor during their study hour. Being prepared to miss some things is important before you do summer school.
3. Procrastination can strike when you're the only one studying
Being the only one studying at home while everyone else is having a rest can be difficult. It's good to be prepared for when procrastination hits.
