This program prepares students for a career in public health or international aid. It will provide a foundation for work in population health including: health promotion; primary health care; policy formulation; research; and the management of health programs.

Structure

  • Total: 72 units of credit (UOC). 4 core courses (24 UOC) including Health Promotion and Social Perspectives in Health, Foundations of Public Health and Health Care Systems, Epidemiology and Statistics for Public Health, International Health) plus 3 electives (18 UOC) from a list of designated international-health related elective courses, and 5 further electives (30 UOC). The following streams are available in the Master of Public Health program: Aboriginal health and well-being
  • Health economic evaluation
  • Health promotion
  • Infectious diseases epidemiology and control
  • International health
  • Primary health care
  • Quantitative research methods
  • Social research.

Standard entry requirements

  • Either an undergraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management (see list below) and 2 years full-time professional or volunteer experience
  • OR An undergraduate degree plus an honours or postgraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management (see list below). Examples include, but are not restricted to, medicine, nursing, allied health, health sciences, biomedical sciences, dentistry, social work, sociology, behavioural and social sciences, social work, psychology, marketing, human services, emergency services, environmental health, veterinary science, health administration, business, management, engineering, law, science, mathematics and statistics, economics, policy studies and development studies.
