Annie Roman Young Refugee Grant

The Annie Roman Young Refugee Grant will be awarded to a financially constrained UniSA undergraduate student from a refugee background studying in any area.The grant honours and remembers Annie Roman (1949-2019) who valued education and wished to make a difference to the lives of refugee students who face cultural, political, and economic factors that affect their ability to access and maintain tertiary education. Annie was a strong, independent, elegant, articulate, and professional woman who had a passion for life and people. She advocated passionately for minority groups and marginalised communities. The grant is designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be:- From a refugee background (Australian Citizen‚ Australian Permanent Resident, Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Protection Visa‚ Bridging Visa).- A young adult up to the age of twenty-five years (age determined at the time of application).- An undergraduate student (open to all disciplines).- A commencing or continuing student.- A full-time or part-time student.- Experiencing financial or educational disadvantage.Academically, applicants must have achieved these thresholds:- Commencing student – Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70.0 (inclusive of any adjustment factor).- Continuing student – cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5. Applicants will need to demonstrate financial hardship to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit e.g. Austudy, Youth Allowance. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Assessment Form to support their application.The grant will be awarded based on financial and/or educational disadvantage, academic achievement‚ and information provided in the written statement.
