The University of Newcastle's Master of Midwifery Studies (MMS) is designed to develop an in-depth understanding of contemporary midwifery theories and practice which will enable you to demonstrate leadership within the midwifery profession and contemporary maternity services. Structure
- Qualification for the award requires 80 units (AQF Level 8 Entry) of course work. All students must undertake 40 units of core courses. Students may undertake 40 units in one of 5 specialisations: Midwifery Primary Care, Clinical Education Research, Leadership and Management (offered on part time basis only)
- or Family Health. Students not wishing to undertake a specialisations must complete 40 units of directed courses from the General Directed Course list.

Standard entry requirements
- Domestic Applicants - Applicants must be a registered midwife with: Honours
- Or A postgraduate qualification
- Or A minimum of one year's experience as documented in a professional curriculum vitae. International Applicants - Applicants must be a registered midwife or a registered nurse working in a maternity environment in their own country, with a minimum of one year's experience as documented in a professional curriculum vitae.
