Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a professional career that utilises mathematics, science, technology and problem solving skills to design, construct and maintain the products and services that underpin modern society. Electrical and Electronic Engineering is the major area of expertise behind control and automation, telecommunications and networking, signal processing, analogue, digital and computer electronics and power generation, distribution and utilisation. It is also vital in new and emerging fields such as nanotechnology, robotics, renewable energy and the Internet of Things.Completing these two bachelor degrees together enables students to complement their technical skills with business acumen, entrepreneurism and the ability to commercialise engineering innovations. Students learn how to manage people and finances, propose new business opportunities and market their products.

Structure

  • The Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Business is a five year program, students are required to complete 400 units, which is comprised of: 310 units are Core Courses
  • 10 units are Electrical and Electronic Engineering Directed Courses*
  • 10 units are Elective Courses
  • 70 units towards a Major. Students may choose either: The Leadership and Management Major, of which 30 units are Compulsory Courses and 40 units are Directed Courses
  • or The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Major, of which 40 units are Compulsory Courses and 30 units are Directed Courses.

Standard entry requirements

Year 12 or equivalent. Alternative entry pathways may include approved TAFE studies, preparatory programs such as Newstep, Open Foundation or Tertiary Preparation Certificate. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics (Band 5 or above) or equivalent. One science-related subject would also be an advantage (Physics or Chemistry preferred). Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5 may be admitted to the program but may need to complete additional study to successfully complete the requirements of the program. Students who have completed HSC Mathematics General 2 may be admitted to the program but can expect to undertake additional studies to successfully complete the requirements of the program.

Recognition

This degree program is accredited by Engineers Australia and other affiliated international organisations.

Study pathways

Credit transfer agreements with TAFE NSW and other education providers are under continuous negotiation. A Bachelor of Business (Honours) is also available to meritorious students, as an additional year of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
