Comprising the first four subjects of the Master of Veterinary Public Health, this course offers specialised training in responding to animal health emergencies, particularly those with a potential public health consequence. Topics include laboratory tests, project management, advanced disease recognition and control, risk communication, epidemiology, selection and evaluation of control options, simulation exercises and preparedness planning. Developed in partnership with the CSIRO's Australian Animal Health Laboratory and the Victorian Department of Primary Industries.

Structure

50 points taken over 12 months part time. This course requires the completion of one compulsory subject, Selection and Interpretation of Lab Tests, and 3 elective subjects at 12.5 credit points each. Regular assessment is conducted throughout each module and a final exam is held at the end of each module.

Standard entry requirements

  • A degree in veterinary science, or an equivalent qualification from a school in the World Health Organization Directory of Veterinary Schools, and at least two years' documented, relevant work experience in the diagnosis and control of animal diseases
  • Or an undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific field with a demonstrated appropriate background in Master of Veterinary Public Health (Emergency Animal Diseases) core curriculum areas, including microbiology, pathology, physiology and veterinary anatomy
  • And at least four years' documented, relevant work experience in the diagnosis and control of animal diseases.
