This course is ideal for those who prefer learning by doing, with a combination of intensives, online learning and a paid Internship teaching position in a Victorian school. No prior teaching experience is required. You will have Permission to Teach (Internship) from the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) during the course and become eligible for full teacher registration once you graduate.

Structure

From 2024 (November 2023 commencement), the Master of Teaching (Secondary) Internship will mirror the same course structure as the Standard Mode for Master of Teaching (Secondary). Both courses comprise 15 subjects, which equate to 200 points of study in total. The course is taken over two years of full-time study and is structured around three study intensives, supplemented by online academic study conducted across the year.

Standard entry requirements

  • Have a completed undergraduate degree which includes appropriate discipline study that satisfies the requirements for two learning areas OR one double learning area. Undergraduate studies must include at least a major study in one learning area, and preferably a second learning area comprising at least a minor study, AND
  • Complete and meet all benchmarks for the Teacher Capability Assessment Tool (TCAT) AND
  • Obtain a teaching internship position with a partner school.
