Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Technology

TAFE NSW

This qualification is part of the Furnishing Training Package. It describes the skills and knowledge required to perform design of furniture and the application of the design into a finished furniture product. This qualification is typically used to develop skills and a breadth, depth and complexity of knowledge in a range of furniture making, design and production techniques.

19 units: 5 core; 14 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Organise and communicate information; Work with others in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment; Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices; Research and select furniture materials and technology; Research furniture styles and movements. Electives: Explore the use of colour; Produce technical drawings; Apply finishing techniques to custom furniture; Assemble custom furniture; Construct and evaluate furniture prototypes and samples; Produce and evaluate developmental furniture models to scale; Hand carve wood to custom design; Research and select furniture finishes; Match furnishing style and materials to customer requirements; plus more.
