This program offers students diverse opportunities for hands-on learning and allows them to deliver professional health services under expert supervision. Students can complete placements at external facilities and have opportunities to participate in events that focus on prevention and treatment within the wider community. QUT students participate in biomechanics/musculoskeletal clinics, sports clinics, diabetes foot complication clinics, paediatrics clinics and general podiatry clinics. Integral to the practice of podiatry is an understanding of human anatomy, biomolecular science, pharmacology, dermatology, and clinical medicine and surgery. This knowledge is supported with approximately 1000 hours of clinical practice which exposes students to all aspects of professional practice including podiatric surgery, physical therapy, rehabilitation and counselling, and prepares graduates for transition into the workforce.

Structure:

The 4-year program includes study in the basic sciences which provides a basis for clinical units. Students undertake supervised clinical practice in the podiatry clinic on campus and other settings.

Students may apply to transfer to a Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) at the end of second year. Entry to Honours will be competitive and will be based on Grade Point Average. Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.

Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students. Our offer guarantee can give you peace of mind about your study choices. If you receive an ATAR or selection rank equal to or higher than the offer guarantee, you are guaranteed a place in the course regardless of the threshold. This means that when you know your ATAR or selection rank you can check your eligibility for a QUT course before receiving an offer. You still need to lodge a QTAC application by the closing date. A small number of courses do not participate in the offer guarantee scheme.

Recognition:

This course is accredited by the Australian and New Zealand Podiatry Accreditation Council.* Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Podiatry Board of Australia, and membership of the Australian Podiatry Association and Sports Medicine Australia. With additional postgraduate training, podiatrists can apply to the Podiatry Board of Australia and seek authorisation to prescribe scheduled medicines.
