Master of Biotechnology

The Master of Biotechnology integrates biotechnology and entrepreneurship through a range of multidisciplinary coursework, research and work-integrated units in modern areas of studies. Structure

Part A: Core biotechnology studies.; These studies present theoretical knowledge in key areas of biotechnology and its applications. You will gain a critical understanding of the designs and methods used in undertaking medical research, and the opportunities and challenges involved in the commercialisation of biotechnology.; Part B: Application studies.; In these studies, you will focus on the application of advanced biotechnology practice. You will consolidate your skills, and knowledge and demonstrate your mastery through either a research project and/ or an industry placement program.; In order to be eligible for the industry placement program or the research project, you will be required to achieve at least 70 percent in the core biotechnology component. If you do not meet this requirement, then you must undertake 48 points from the elective list.; Alternative qualifications.; You may be eligible to exit your course early and apply to graduate with one of the following qualifications, provided you have met the requirements for the qualification during your enrolment in the Masters course:; Graduate Certificate of Biotechnology after successful completion of BRM5014, BEX5411, BRM5012 and BRM501.; Graduate Diploma of Biotechnology after successful completion of Part A.; If you decide to graduate early, you will need to discontinue from the Masters course. You may be eligible to receive credit for the units you have completed if you re-apply and are re-admitted to this course or apply for another graduate degree at Monash University.

Entry requirements

Entry level 1: An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a relevant area of study* with at least a credit (60%) average.
Entry level 2: An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant area of study* with at least a distinction (70%) average.
*Areas of study include a Bachelors degree in one of the following:Biomedical Science, Science/Applied Science with a major in (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Developmental biology, Human Biology, Marine Biology, Human Pathology, Genetics, Pharmacology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology and Zoology), Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, Veterinary Science, Medical Engineering, Pharmacy, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Life Science, Clinical Medicine, Dental Science/Dentistry, or Bioinformatics.
