Students also receive hands-on training in facilities including a TV studio, an archaeological dig simulation site, moot court, and on field trips to places like Victoria's alpine wilderness.

La Trobe encourages students to participate in overseas study programs including nursing in Nepal, nanotechnology in Tokyo, and Indigenous studies in the Philippines. In 2016, La Trobe awarded travel grants and scholarships to 950 undergraduate and postgraduate students to study with partners like National University of Singapore, San Diego State University and Stockholm University.
