Master of Engineering (Biomedical)

Biomedical engineering is about developing applications that improve quality of life. This degree will help fill growing opportunities in biomedical engineering to satisfy the demand for increasingly sophisticated medical technology that supports the quality of life of an ageing population, and the demand for devices to improve health and fitness particularly among elite athletes. Many sports organisations are now using biomedical engineers to maintain and enhance the performance of their athletes.

Structure

Students complete ten core (compulsory) topics and either a research project or a thesis and option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing them for further study or for a career in biomedical engineering.Students who have completed a relevant Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) may receive up to one year of credit towards the Master of Engineering (Biomedical).

Entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold at least one of the following:Flinders University Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science with a major in Biomedical EngineeringEquivalent progress in the Master of Engineering Science (Biomedical)A relevant Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Engineering Science An equivalent overseas qualification Students without such a qualification should apply for the Master of Engineering Science (Biomedical) or the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science. However the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature. Students who have completed a relevant Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) may receive up to 36 units of credit towards the Master of Engineering (Biomedical).

Recognition

This degree is accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of professional engineer.

Study Pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
