Become a specialist practitioner in the care of neonates and their families in the context of a multidisciplinary team. This course is aimed at Registered Nurses and Midwives who are currently working in, or would like to work in, a Special Care Nursery environment, as well as: • Registered Nurses working in smaller, mostly rural hospitals who provide backup for midwives in birth suite when caring for compromised newborns, or • Registered midwives wanting to refresh their knowledge in caring for the compromised newborn.

Standard entry requirements
An applicant must have successfully completed a three year (minimum) Bachelor level qualification in a related health cognate discipline area. The HN9.NC Master / HM4.NC Graduate Diploma of Health (Neonatal Care) requires Registered Nurses and Midwives to further develop their knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and leadership in the level 3-5 special care nursery (SCN) setting (Department of Health Victoria SCN levels, or equivalent in other states). Clinical placement will not be provided for this course. Students must be employed in a level 3-5 SCN whilst undertaking this course and provide a letter that confirms employment.
