Course in Disability First Aid - 11270NAT

Essential Skills Training and Recruitment

Type of institution: Registered Training Organisation
Level: Vocational Education and Training (VET)
CRICOS:

This course is an extension of HLTAID011 Provide first aid. It equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to modify their approach if required to provide effective first aid to a person with a disability affecting their body systems and/or mobility, e.g. a person who is in a bed or wheelchair. In many instances the response to be provided to a person with a disability is the same as that provided to able-bodied persons, such as in the case of anaphylaxis or allergic reaction, for example. However, some first aid situations require the application of modified first response techniques, for example, responding to a person who is in a bed or wheelchair who is seizing or choking. This course provides skills and knowledge to apply modified techniques where the first aid response differs between able-bodied and a person with a disability. In addition, it includes the ability to recognise and report that a patient may be severely depressed or suicidal.
