Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. The honours component prepares students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications. The Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) (Honours) degree available at Curtin is a four-year undergraduate honours course that prepares graduates for professional physiotherapy employment as well as providing a pathway for ongoing research and further learning. Physiotherapy is a primary contact health profession concerned with the prevention, assessment and management of physical and/or mental health disorders that affect peoples movement and/or function. A physiotherapist works with people of all ages with wide ranging health needs related to musculoskeletal, neurological or cardiorespiratory disorders. Physiotherapists are empathetic listeners who have highly developed problem-solving skills, excellent manual handling skills and a desire to continually improve and learn. At Curtin we believe that learning occurs when students construct their own knowledge, facilitated by our staff and the authentic experiences we provide, enabling students to create pragmatic goals and solutions to typical clinical `problems. We value reflective practice, so that students learn to critically analyse and synthesise evidence relevant to a clinical problem, make decisions about possible management strategies and monitor the success of those strategies.
