Certificate III in Individual Support

Charles Darwin University (CDU)

This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It covers workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Entry Requirements:

Year 10 is highly recommended. Where an applicant has extensive industry experience but has not completed Year 10, conditional enrolment in the course is possible. It is highly recommended that students with English as a second language complete the Certificate III in Spoken and Written English.

Structure:

13 units: 7 core; 6 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Provide individualised support; Support independence and well being; Communicate and work in health or community services; Work with diverse people; Work legally and ethically; Recognise healthy body systems; Follow safe work practices for direct client care. Elective streams: Ageing; Disability; Home and community. Plus electives.

Study Pathways:

On completion of the Certificate III in Aged Care students may undertake Enrolled Nursing at Certificate IV level.

Charles Darwin University is the major tertiary education and vocational education and training institution in the Northern Territory.

Originally established as a tertiary institution in 1974, it became the Northern Territory University in 1989 and Charles Darwin University in 2003.

The main University campus is located at Casuarina in Darwin with campuses at Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston. VET courses are also offered at Jabiru, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Yulara Centres as well as at various remote community centres.

The University provides multi-sector education with Senior Secondary, VET, Higher Education and Research facilities.

CDU also deliver a number of courses through the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE), which is a joint initiative between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). The three main sites for delivery will be at the main ACIKE Hub CDU Casuarina campus and at the BIITE campuses at Batchelor and the Alice Springs Desert Peoples' Centre.
