The Associate Degree of Visual Art (ADVA) is a two year entry level program focused on building foundation skills in key aspects of visual art. The course comprises Level 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Visual Art (BVA) and includes units in drawing, painting, sculpture, art history and theory, and contemporary studies. The ADVA offers an exit point from the BVA, enabling students who have completed Level 1 and 2 to graduate with a stand-alone qualification. On completion of the ADVA, graduates are equipped to pursue employment opportunities in the field of visual arts and in related occupations, or undertake further study.

Structure

The ADVA is structured into Level 1 and 2. Awarding the ADVA requires the successful completion of 96 credit points (including completion of all core units). Each unit consists of 4 credit points. Level 1 is structured as a foundation year of core units, including 8 credit points in Art History & Theory, 8 credit points in Foundation Studies, 16 credit points in Drawing, 8 credit points in Painting, and 8 credit points in Sculpture. Level 2 comprises both core and elective units, including 8 credit points in Art History & Theory, 8 credit points in Contemporary Studio Practice, 16 credit points in Drawing core units, and 16 credit points in Elective units.

Standard entry requirements

Portfolio entry is available for applicants who do not meet the TER requirements. Minimum ATAR score (TER) of 60 or a previous tertiary qualification at AQF Level 6 awarded within the last 10 years.
