The Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology will allow you to upgrade your undergraduate exercise science qualifications so that you can work with individuals with disease and injury in the broader community. Clinical exercise physiology is an area of allied health that is specifically concerned with using exercise to restore good health and physical capability to people after illness or injury or to improve the quality of life and manage physical function in people with chronic disease and physical disabilities. This degree includes advanced clinical training for work as an exercise physiologist. As part of the course, you will undertake 360 hours of clinical work experience. This will ensure that you will be work-ready for industry practice in both public and private facilities with a clinical focus.

Structure

The Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology requires the successful completion of 72 credit points of subjects as specified below.Your study program requires you to attend workplace experience or clinical placements within a range of health-related settings. Before you can commence a placement within a NSW Health facility, you must meet NSW Health’s mandatory requirements for police check, code of conduct and immunisation / vaccination.

Standard entry requirements

A recognised Bachelor degree in Exercise Science of at least three years' duration, or have ESSA approved Graduate Entry status.

Recognition

This course is accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Graduates of the Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology are eligible to apply for accreditation as Exercise Physiologists with ESSA.

Study pathways

The maximum amount of external credit that can be awarded at the postgraduate level is 50% of the credit point value of the UOW course.

As there are only a limited number of places available in this program, entry is competitive. Please note allied health degrees (medicine, physiotherapy, nursing, etc) do not meet the minimum requirements for entry into this course.
