The Bachelor of Science - Bachelor of Arts combines practical, numeracy and computer skills with the critical and creative thinking skills, effective communication and problem solving skills learned from studying the arts and humanities. Studies in science allow you to research problems, interpret data and propose solutions. Studies in arts will give you the skills to develop arguments, communicate with audiences and influence decision-making. When combined, the skills and knowledge from these two fields can place you in a key position to work with the complex challenges we will face in the future.

Structure

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science - Bachelor of Arts must successfully complete a total of 216 credit points made up of:1. At least 96 credit points of subjects from one of the Bachelor of Science majors, including all core subjects. Please refer to the details below for each major. Note: some of the majors require the completion of additional credit points, which may extend the duration of your degree.2. At least 90 credit points of subjects from the Bachelor of Arts including:a. ASSH101 Introduction to Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (6 credit points);b. at least one of the majors listed in the Bachelor of Arts degree;c. a second major (minimum 48 credit points, maximum 60 credit points) or a minor (minimum 24 credit points), from within a Humanities and the Arts discipline;3. Subjects from the General Schedules to ensure that a minimum of 216 credit points have been completed.4. Not more than 96 credit points of 100-level subjects.

  • ecology and conservation biology, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, geology, environment and physical geography, archaeology and ancient history, English literatures, environmental humanities, French, history, indigenous studies, Italian, Japanese, legal studies, mandarin (non-Chinese background students), Mandarin (character background students), philosophy, photography, politics, science and technology studies, international relations, sociology, Spanish, creative writing, or writing and English literatures.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia.

Study pathways

If applicants can demonstrate they have met the learning outcomes for UOW subjects through prior learning, such as previous tertiary or TAFE qualifications, they may be eligible for credit towards their degree. Where relevant to the UOW degree, specified credit may be given for a specific subject(s); where not relevant to the degree, unspecified credit may be awarded.
