Master of Science - Medical Physics (By Research)

This program gives physical scientists the relevant knowledge and appropriate problem solving skills for entry into an accredited medical physics training programme in radiation oncology, nuclear medicine or radiology. A research topic in medical physics examined by thesis comprises three quarters of this course. The remaining quarter comprises required units in Human Biology for Medical Physicists, Radiation Biology and Protection, Radiotherapy Physics, and Medical Imaging Physics.

Entry Requirements:

A relevant bachelor degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA, and the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65%; or a relevant honours degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA.


24 points of required coursework (4 units) and research thesis to a value of 72 points

This course is currently being prepared for accreditation by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM). However, students should be aware that passing an accredited ACPSEM course does not guarantee that the student will be accepted for entry into an accreditation program where the minimum undergraduate requirements of ACPSEM are not met. Contact the ACPSEM for details on minimum undergraduate requirements for accreditation. Owing to the limited number of Medical Physicists available to supervise research projects, applicants should be aware that intake into the course is restricted to six students per year and entry is therefore competitive.
