This one-year program is for graduates aspiring to careers as secondary school teachers. Candidates must have a degree with a major in the subject that they wish to teach and which can be found in the school curriculum. The courses aims to graduate highly skilled professionals who have the key practical skills required for effective secondary teaching informed by current theory and research. Graduates of this course are qualified to work in government and non-government schools. The UWA Faculty of Education is renowned for its excellent teacher education courses and the quality of its graduates.

Entry Requirements:

Relevant Bachelor degree with a major relevant to secondary teaching curriculum majors or equivalent; or for School Psychology majors: 4 year Bachelor degree with a major in psychology, 4 year Honours degree in psychology or equivalent (minimum WAM of 60%) and be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist. International applicants: IELTS score of 7.5 overall with no band lower than 7.0 and no less than 8.0 in speaking and listening and demonstrated evidence of English language competency in accordance with teacher registration requirements; and National Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Clearance


The course consists of units to a total value of 60 points.

All students are required to pass a test of Teacher Language Competency Skills, to demonstrate literacy skills within the top 30% of the population, as required for professional registration. Students must demonstrate numeracy competency, within the top 30% of the population, as appropriate to the specialisation and the requirements for professional registration.
