This course is for people with a commitment to social justice and an interest in working with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. You will learn about the nature of social policy, social work and historical and contemporary debates in policy and practice. There is a strong emphasis on Australian and comparative social welfare studies. You will prepare for professional practice through intensive learning in study groups. You will understand theories informing policy and practice, to use and develop knowledge from research and to work with value and ethical issues. You may also have an opportunity to complete honours.

Year 12 HSC or equivalent; selection criteria: ATAR


192 credit points, including 140 days of placement. Core units in social policy, social work, sociology. All students undertake a professional program in social work. Major studies are complemented by short foundation courses in areas such as data analysis, entrepreneurship, programming, project management, team leadership.

Practical experience: Field education placements totalling 140 days are taken in third and fourth year. Career opportunities: Examples include aged care worker, children and families support worker, community worker in programs for people with disabilities, services for migrant and refugee communities, all areas of social policy and international development.
