This program prepares students for the nursing profession as a registered nurse through a combination of coursework, clinical simulation in well-resourced on-campus nursing laboratories and quality clinical experience in a wide variety of health care settings. As a graduate of the Bachelor of Nursing students will have the skills required to work as a Registered Nurse or Clinical Nurse in a multitude of settings in Australia or overseas including public and private hospitals, community health, mental health, aged care, home health care, indigenous health, occupational health, rural practice and overseas nursing. USQ's Bachelor of Nursing program offers the highest amount of practical experience than any other university in Queensland.

Year 12 or equivalent; Have achieved a minimum Overall Position (OP) 13, tertiary entrance rank 71 or equivalent qualification; English (4, SA); Recommended study: Mathematics, and one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Multi-strand science at Year 12 level; plus meet the requirements of the University of Southern Queensland and Queensland Health for clinical placement. International students must demonstrate proficiency in English with the provision of a recent IELTS test of 6.5 or higher with no subset of less than 6.0 or successfully completed the University's ELICOS/EAP programs


24 units: 24 core courses, including 840 hours practical clinical experience.

Endorsed enrolled nurses with appropriate qualifications may be granted exemptions to a maximum of 8 courses. Credit for prior study of accredited Bachelor of Nursing programs may be awarded for prior learning at University level.

Students must be willing to undertake and submit the requirements of the University of Southern Queensland and Queensland Health for clinical placement. These include: evidence of Hepatitis B immunisation; evidence of Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunisation; evidence of Pertussis immunisation; a current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check Certificate; a current Blue Card from the Queensland Government Commission for Children and Young People and Young Guardian; a current CPR certificate; a signed QHealth Student Orientation Checklist; a signed Student Deed Poll; a current certificate for completion of QHealth and Safety Orientation; a signed USQ Clinical Placement Declaration Guide.


This program is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and is listed as an approved program with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulating Authority (AHPRA)
