This program equips students with the skills and knowledge required to give a child the best possible start in life. Emphasis is placed on child-centred learning and positions graduates to work with expertise in child care and kindergarten centres. Targeted professional experience placements give students extensive experience in these settings. Unique additional engagement activities run throughout the degree, give students the opportunity to engage and network with current educators and industry specialists and develop valuable teaching skills, an advantage when it comes to applying for jobs. Graduates of the Bachelor of Early Childhood will have the skills, knowledge and experience required to work as a Director of a child care centre, family day care supervisor or group leader. This program is accredited with the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). The program is not accredited with the Queensland College of Teachers and does not lead to teacher registration.

Entry Requirements:

Academic Entry Criteria: Year 12 English (4 SA) or equivalent; Year 12 Mathematics A, B or C (4 SA) or equivalent; Year 12 Science subject (4 SA) or equivalent. English Language Proficiency category 5.Special Entry - Students with Year 10 or equivalent and at least three years full-time equivalent work experience relevant to the early childhood sector will be considered for admission. All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. If the English language requirements are not met students may apply to study a University-approved English language program.


24 units, including 80 days of professional experience.

Study Pathways:

Students who have completed the Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Community Services (Children's Services) or approved equivalent with a Registered Training Organisation may be eligible for up to 8 and 12 units exemption respectively. Students may seek exemption from units on the basis of documented prior study at University level or equivalent qualifications and experience.

A Working with Children Suitability Check (Blue Card or Exemption Card) is required before professional experience placements can commence if working with children under the age of 18 years of age in QLD. If completing professional experience outside of QLD, it is the student's responsibility to meet the requirements of the relevant state or territory.
