This program qualifies individuals who apply an advanced body of knowledge in a range of contexts for professional practice or scholarship in social work, and as a pathway for further learning. It specifically aims to prepare students with the knowledge and skills required for entry level professional practice as a social worker.

Entry Requirements:

Bachelor degree or postgraduate qualification in a related discipline at a recognised higher education institution or equivalent; international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained the required standard within the last two years.


72 units; 27 units practicum; 45 units social policy and social work theory.

Study Pathways:

Applicants who have completed the Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services) [MBSS] degree or equivalent are eligible to enter the program with 0.5 EFTSL advanced standing and complete the program in 1.5 years of full time study or part time equivalent.


Graduates of the Master of Social Work are eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
