This degree forms part of the School of Economics PhD program requirements. Upon successful completion of this coursework degree, candidates embark on the second year of coursework in the PhD degree followed by 2-3 years of dissertation research. The PhD program of the School of Economics is an umbrella for a one-year Masters degree and a 3-4 year PhD degree. Incoming students are accepted into the Master of Advanced Economics (MAdvEcon) degree, in which the first year of coursework is undertaken. Successful completion of the MAdvEcon with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6 or higher on the 7-point UQ scale then allows students to enrol into the PhD degree. Within the PhD degree, students take the second year of coursework before embarking on the completion of their thesis over the subsequent 2-3 years.

Entry Requirements:

To enrol in the program a person must hold a relevant bachelor degree in Economics or cognate discipline or equivalent as approved by the Executive Dean; and satisfy the Executive Dean that, based on the academic record, the person is suitably qualified for admission.
