A combined degree program provides students with an opportunity to undertake concurrent study in order to complete two awards simultaneously. This program combines Mechatronics Engineering with a Bachelor of Business (with a selection of majors available). This combination provides graduates with practical skills in engineering design, operation and control of intelligent machines and devices. From the control of robots to the optimisation of modern vehicles, from the design of appliances to biomechanics, mechatronics engineering students become involved in a diverse range of exciting modern technologies. As such, it involves the integration of elements from mechanical, electrical and computer engineering. This is in addition to highly developed skills and knowledge for the business world.

Structure

This 5 year program comprises of 410 units of which 340 units are core courses and 70 units are from your chosen business major. Students will have the opportunity to undertake an industrially related project in their final year in the engineering degree and must also complete 12 weeks of industrial experience throughout the program. In the Bachelor of Engineering component of this combined degree program a graded honours classification is awarded to students on the basis of superior performance attained throughout the program. In the Bachelor of Business component, a 'with distinction' classification is awarded to students on the basis of superior performance attained throughout the program.

Standard entry requirements

Year 12 or equivalent. Alternative entry pathways may include approved TAFE studies, preparatory programs such as Newstep, Open Foundation or Tertiary Preparation Certificate. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics (Band 5 or above) or equivalent. One science-related subject would also be an advantage (physics preferred). Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5 may be admitted to the program but may need to complete additional study to successfully complete the requirements of the program. Students who have completed HSC Mathematics General 2 may be admitted to the program but can expect to undertake additional studies to successfully complete the requirements of the program.

Recognition

This degree program is accredited by Engineers Australia and other affiliated international organisations.

Study pathways

Credit transfer agreements with TAFE NSW and other education providers are under continuous negotiation. A Bachelor of Business (Honours) is available as an additional year to meritorious students.

Further information

It may not always be possible to complete this combined Engineering degree within 5 years. This combined Engineering degree is not available for midyear admission by international students.
