Master of Psychology - Clinical

This program will train Psychology graduates in the professional specialisation of clinical psychology. It is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and involves 1,000 hours of clinical placements. The first year is undertaken full-time on-campus. Graduates will be able to apply for general registration as a Psychologist. Subsequent supervised practice will lead to endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist by the Psychology Board of Australia.

Entry Requirements:

AQF Level 8 four-year Bachelor honours, or AQF Level 7 three-year Bachelor plus an AQF Level 8 fourth-year Bachelor honours or Graduate Diploma, in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC)-accredited sequence in Psychology at the level of at least second class division one honours or equivalent obtained within the preceding 10 years. An exception to the 10-year rule may be made for currently registered psychologists who can demonstrate current compliance with the Psychology Board of Australia continuing professional development requirements; and be eligible for Provisional Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or admission through an articulation program. Candidates must complete and provide a Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate, and acquire immunisations required by NSW Health for practical work.


96 credit points (equivalent to 16 standard units) including coursework, research and practicum requirements as prescribed in the course accreditation standards and approved by the course coordinator. The first year of the course is undertaken full time on campus. Practicum: One of the three periods of practical work shall be completed (at a minimum of 100 hours) in the UNE Psychology Clinic of the School of Behavioural, Cognitive and Social Sciences. The remaining practice may be completed outside the University. Candidates will be responsible for meeting all expenses arising from practice undertaken away from Armidale. A student's program of study and credit points for completion are determined by the qualification used as the basis of admission.

Completion of an accredited 4th year in Psychology (Bachelor with Honours/Graduate Diploma) can result in registration as a General Psychologist after completion of a two year internship. Completion of the Master of Professional Psychology results in registration as a General Psychologist after completion of a one year internship. Completion of the Master of Psychology (Clinical) results in registration as a General Psychologist. After a further 2 years of supervised practice in the specialist area, graduates can become registered as a Clinical Psychologist.


The program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Completion of the course and subsequent supervised practice will lead to endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist by the Psychology Board of Australia.

College accommodation

UNE’s residential accommodation currently consists of eight colleges and a village of self-contained units.
