Master of Professional Psychology

This online program provides selected Psychology graduates with a fifth year of professional training in psychology. This includes 300 hours of practical training at a worksite identified by the student and meeting the supervision and experience requirements of the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. Graduates complete an additional one-year Psychology Board of Australia internship to be eligible for general registration as a psychologist in Australia.

Entry Requirements:

Four-year Bachelor honours in Psychology; or a Bachelor degree with a three-year accredited sequence in Psychology plus a fourth year Bachelor honours or a Graduate Diploma with an accredited sequence in Psychology. A student's Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited sequence in Psychology must have been completed within the last 10 years. An exception to the 10-year rule may be made for currently registered psychologists who can demonstrate current compliance with the PsyBA CPD requirements and are seeking to gain a professional postgraduate qualification. All students must complete a Working with Children Check; National Police Certificate; complete immunisations required by NSW Health for Category A risk personnel; and have provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) as a psychologist. Admission to the program is selective.

48 credit points (equivalent to 8 standard units) including coursework and 300 hours of practicum.

Further information:

Completion of the Master of Professional Psychology results in registration as a General Psychologist after completion of a one year internship. Completion of the Master of Psychology (Clinical) results in registration as a General Psychologist; after a further 2 years of supervised practice in the specialist area can become registered as a Clinical Psychologist.

College accommodation

UNE’s residential accommodation currently consists of eight colleges and a village of self-contained units. Accommodation ranges from the more traditional college with meals included and shared bathroom facilities, to the more independent, self-contained flats at Wright Village and UNE’s new Wright College , which provides modern studio apartments complete with your own kitchen and bathroom facilities.
