This program provides the framework for one of the University's highest level awards. It provides the rigorous processes that are essential for the maintenance of academic quality and integrity in the University's operations, and that reflect the University's values of providing a formative, respectful, inclusive, flexible and innovative environment for the delivery of high quality research training for its students. This program combines advanced coursework and completion of either a thesis or portfolio.

Entry Requirements:

Admission to candidature in the degree of Doctor of Education may be approved by the Academic Board Higher Degree Research Committee only when the Head of School has certified that the necessary facilities and appropriate support for the applicant are available and an appropriate Principal Supervisor and Co-supervisor(s) have been nominated. The Committee may, on the recommendation of the relevant Head of School, admit to candidature into the Doctor of Education an applicant who: has completed and had approved by the Committee a research proposal and satisfies the HDR Coordinator that they have relevant experience in an education institution or in education services delivery; and a degree of Master or equivalent with at least a 25% research component; or a degree of Bachelor Honours with at least upper second class honours or equivalent; or a degree of Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters or equivalent and adequate research preparation since graduation.

Structure:

144 credit points (equivalent to 24 standard units) including the completion of 24 credit points of coursework and a portfolio or thesis of 120 credit points. Students must maintain a Credit average in the coursework component in order to progress into the research component.

College accommodation

UNE’s residential accommodation currently consists of eight colleges and a village of self-contained units. Accommodation ranges from the more traditional college with meals included and shared bathroom facilities, to the more independent, self-contained flats at Wright Village and UNE’s new Wright College , which provides modern studio apartments complete with your own kitchen and bathroom facilities.
