Nursing plays a key role in health services across the world, and professional nurses work in a wide variety of settings. The Bachelor of Nursing equips graduates with the key knowledge and skills necessary for the practice of nursing. The course also aims to give graduates an appreciation of the value of life-long learning and a firm foundation for further study at a postgraduate level. A central aim is to prepare graduate nurses for registration as professional nurses with the New South Wales Nurses Registration Board. The second and third years of the course can be undertaken in 'Blended Learning' mode, which includes a combination of mandatory on-campus intensive schools, structured online learning and clinical practice blocks.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent and a pass in English and a science subject (other than Mathematics); or an unrestricted Enrolled Nurse qualification with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent; or the UNE Advanced Diploma in Nursing; or successfully undertake an interview conducted by a panel of UNE academic registered nurses. International students must hold a minimum 2 year FTE post-secondary equivalent to an Australian Diploma in Nursing and be registered, licensed or recognised in their own country as registered or a professional nurse in the last ten years; and have an IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 6.5 with no sub-band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL score of at least 91 in the Internet-based Text with not less than 22 in the written component and 20 in Listening, Speaking and Reading); or successful completion of an advanced EAP program at the University of New England English Language Centre (equivalent to IELTS 6.5).

Structure:

144 credit points (equivalent to 24 standard units). Students complete 880 hours of clinical practice, which is organised in block placements of 2 to 4 weeks. Clinical placements occur in most area health services of NSW. Units are offered in all three trimesters allowing students to complete the course in two calendar years if they wish. Students admitted through an articulation program follow a modified program of study.

College accommodation

UNE’s residential accommodation currently consists of eight colleges and a village of self-contained units. Accommodation ranges from the more traditional college with meals included and shared bathroom facilities, to the more independent, self-contained flats at Wright Village and UNE’s new Wright College , which provides modern studio apartments complete with your own kitchen and bathroom facilities.
