This program focuses on developing the skills and emerging aesthetic of the individual and collaborative writer for diverse forms of contemporary live performance. This program aims to give writers an opportunity to develop their skills in a unique laboratory context alongside other theatre makers, and is designed to extend students' existing writing practice to the point where they are ready to make a more significant and lasting contribution to the profession. The program focuses on the development of a full length play, as well as four other smaller performance writing projects including: writing from improvisation with acting and directing students; writing for digital mediums; adaptation of existing texts; and writing for live art projects.

Structure

  • 100 credit points. Subjects include: Research and New Performance Writing
  • Dramaturgy, Text and Performance
  • Writing for Performance 1 (solo writing)
  • Writing for Performance 2 (collaborative writing)
  • Writing for Performance 3 (portfolio)
  • Writing from Performance. Most classes are held in the early evening allowing students to continue their professional practice.

Standard entry requirements

  • Relevant honours degree with a weighted average mark of at least 70%, and at least 80% in practical projects in the relevant discipline in year four, or equivalent
  • Or at least five years' extensive, relevant professional experience, and demonstration of artistic ability
  • Interview (shortlisted candidates only)
  • CV and portfolio of work.
