Master of Translation

This program has specialisations in Spanish and in Mandarin Chinese and will prepare bilinguals for careers as professional translators, mediating Australia's international relations. Graduates may work in fields such as government, commerce, law, or international relations. Students will develop professional skills translating specialised topics, managing terminology, using translation technologies and negotiating the cultural and intellectual boundaries of Chinese and Spanish-speaking worlds. An internship is a core component of the program, which allows students to develop professional translation skills in practice within industry. They may undertake elective subjects in the broad fields of culture and communication, and languages and linguistics.

Entry Requirements:

An undergraduate degree with at least an H2B (70%) average, or equivalent; Native speaker competence in one of English or Chinese (Mandarin), and at least near-native competence in the other language; IELTS 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0) or equivalent.


150 credit points comprising 125 points of compulsory subjects and 25 points of elective subjects.

Students who successfully complete the Master of Translation program may be eligible for entry into other masters by coursework programs.
