This program enables students to explore the interdisciplinary nature of agricultural food and fibre production and markets at an advanced level. Students gain a sound foundation in the scientific principles and analytical skills behind improved agricultural production systems and their sustainability. Advanced research topics and practical applications are investigated, and students will be introduced to industrial applications of agricultural science and their commercial outcomes. Graduates will have a critical understanding of environmental, economic, social and ethical factors related to plant and animal-derived food and fibre production in Australia and globally. Students are able to specialise in: agribusiness, animal science, crop production or food sustainability.

Entry Requirements:

Honours degree or equivalent, or undergraduate degree with at least an H3 (65 per cent) weighted average or equivalent; or a graduate or postgraduate certificate in any discipline with at least an H3 (65 per cent) weighted average or equivalent


100 credit point program comprises two core subjects (25 credit points), three specialisation core subjects (37.5 points), and three elective subjects (37.5 credit points).

Study Pathways:

Completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture or Agricultural Science will give an advanced standing of 100 points into the Master of Agricultural Science.

Graduates are employed as animal nutrition managers, business analysts, development specialists, agricultural and resource economists, economic researchers, journalists, land-care coordinators, marketers, research analysts and quality assurance professionals. Employers include public and private extension agencies, government and policy agencies, private consultancies, international aid and development agencies, international trade, and food and fibre production companies.
