Standard entry requirements

An undergraduate degree in dentistry or equivalent. At least two years’ full-time, continuous clinical work experience after graduation from dental school. This does NOT include an intern year. Completion of professional development courses, postgraduate diplomas and a strong record in research publications would be highly regarded.

Recognition

Australian Dental Council; The Dental Board of Australia recognises this course for specialist practice for people with current General Registration. International graduates require ADC examinations before or after completing the course if they do not hold General Registration in order to register to practice as a specialist in Australia.

Study pathways

There are no additional study pathways apart from via general dental degree training and clinical practice. Recognition of prior learning is approved on a case-by-case basis.

The application process is highly competitive due to the strict quota placed on this course by the availability of clinical dental chairs. Therefore, many applicants choose to complete the Primary Examinations for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeon Fellowship to strengthen their application.
