This program is designed for students who are committed to improving the lives of people by enabling participation in everyday life. It is designed to meet the competency standards for new graduate occupational therapists. Students learn how to work with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they need to, want to or are expected to do. Students also learn about modifying the occupation or the environment to better support people's occupational engagement. Students will work with all people, including those who have an impairment of body structures or function owing to a health condition, or who are restricted in their participation, or who are socially excluded owing to their membership of social or cultural minority groups. Graduates will have the attitudes, skills and knowledge to work collaboratively with people, individually or in groups or communities. Graduates will work in a wide variety of public, private and voluntary sector settings, and will provide services in diverse environments such as homes, schools, workplaces, health centres, supported accommodation, housing for seniors, rehabilitation centres, hospitals and forensic centres.

Entry Requirements:

This course has an early closing date to submit applications by the 31st May of every year for domestic applicants and 31st March every year for international applicants. Domestic applicants must apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Students should apply at: http://www.uac.edu.au/postgraduate/ A completed bachelor degree in any discipline with a credit or higher average. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a pre-admission interview. Admission will be based on both degree studies and interview. English language requirements: must have an Overall Academic IELTS score of 7.0 with no band score less than 7.0.

Structure:

48 credit points. The program is full time and runs for four semesters and one winter term incorporating university based units as well as 1000 hours of practice education.

A police check and immunisations record are required prior to commencing practice education. Results of the police check must be satisfactory for students to be accepted for practice education placements in a variety of health care settings.

Recognition:

The Master of Occupational Therapy at the University of Canberra fulfils the requirements for entry level education of occupational therapists and has been awarded the status of a professionally accredited occupational therapy course by Occupational Therapy Australia and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
