Bachelor of Nursing

University of Canberra

This course is the undergraduate nursing program offered at the University of Canberra. The focus of the course is nursing; the objectives are to educate safe accurate nurses who are eligible for registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia (NMBA) through the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). In order for completing students to be eligible for registration as a nurse in Australia, the program is required to be assessed, and accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). The accredited program must also be approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) prior to the enrolment of any students. A Bachelor of Nursing degree is typically well subscribed and the nursing workforce is the largest and one of the most portable in healthcare in Australia. Nursing careers are broadly described, and this breadth can be articulated in terms of the NMBA definition of practice here; 'Practice means any role, whether remunerated or not, in which the individual uses their skills and knowledge as a health practitioner in their profession. Practice in this context is not restricted to the provision of direct clinical care. It also includes using professional knowledge (working) in a direct non-clinical relationship with clients, working in management, administration, education, research, advisory, regulatory or policy development roles, and any other roles that impact on the safe, effective delivery of services in the profession'.
