This combined degree provides students with an in-depth understanding of the academically related areas of Media and Public Affairs and International Studies and, in particular, provides an opportunity to understand the ways in which international relations are affected by emerging global communication systems. The combined degree may enable students to follow an international career in communication-related professions, either working in Australia for an international organisation, or working internationally. The International Studies degree investigates the interplay of cultural, political and economic forces in the regional and global arena, and allows students to develop an understanding of intercultural communication. This is enhanced by foreign language study and a highly recommended international exchange semester. The field of Media and Public Affairs focuses on the dynamic interactions between media, government, the public and society and how meanings and values in these spheres are shaped as a result.
