Certificate III in Racing Services - Track Maintenance


This qualification is part of the Racing Training Package. It reflects the role of persons who are responsible for organising their own work within known routines. Work responsibilities cover the maintenance and repair of racing tracks, gardens and other facilities as well as the use of tools and machinery. Employees will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the impact of track and environmental conditions on racing animal welfare and may be required to handle greyhounds or horses in emergency situations and assist in marshalling prior to racing. A range of well-developed skills involving judgement and problem solving with some theoretical knowledge is required.

Entry Requirements:

Year 10 or equivalent


20 units: 5 racing stream; 10 track maintenance stream; 5 elective

Racing stream: Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices; Apply first aid; Achieve requirements for industry induction; Comply with the rules of racing and related protocols; Investigate job opportunities in racing and related industries; Manage personal health and fitness; Relate animal welfare to track and environmental conditions; plus more. Track maintenance stream: Supervise use of track and race club facilities; Handle greyhounds; Handle horses; Assist with race meeting track management; Maintain specialised non-turf track surfaces for racing; Provide emergency animal assistance; Use hand and power tools; Maintain pool environments; Work effectively in an emergency disease response; Monitor weather conditions; Install irrigation systems; plus more.
