Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade

This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package. It is for people employed as apprentice metal fabrication trades people in manufacturing, engineering and related industry areas. Students will learn the competencies required to work as a fabrication tradesperson in these areas. Students will acquire skills and knowledge in workplace communication, occupational health and safety, quality procedures systems and planning, engineering measurement, computations and computer technology plus industry-specific skills in welding, boilermaking and light fabrication (sheet metal) relevant to their current or intended employment.

Structure:

11 core units; plus Fabrication Trade stream units; plus electives

Core: Perform engineering measurements; Perform computations; Apply principles of occupational health and safety in the work environment; Plan to undertake a routine task; Plan a complete activity; Apply quality procedures; Apply quality systems; Organise and communicate information; Work with others in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment; Interact with computing technology; Assist in the provision of on the job training. Fabrication Trade: Perform sheet and plate assembly; Develop and manufacture wood patterns; Produce polymer patterns; Apply fabrication, forming and shaping techniques; Assemble fabricated components; Perform routine manual metal arc welding; Interpret technical drawing; plus more. Electives: Perform hand forging; Set computer controlled machines/processes; Manually finish/polish materials; Install pipework and pipework assemblies; Perform gland packing; plus more.
