The Bachelor of Fashion Design is a three year degree (or part time equivalent) that prepares graduates for creative employment in the fashion industry in Australia and overseas. The degree aims to produce highly creative, work ready design professionals who can apply their knowledge and creative ability across different work contexts and roles in the fashion industry.Students gain specific knowledge in design, fashion principles, illustration, visual communication, fashion production techniques and professional practice. Graduates will be equipped to manage the design and development process from concept to realisation. While the program emphasises creative design practice, it aims to produce graduates with broad knowledge and skills in fashion design, as well as specialist knowledge in a specific area or field.The Bachelor of Fashion Design also requires you to undertake two internships which as well as preparing you to enter the profession with confidence, will provide you with the opportunity to establish professional networks.Further information about this course is available on the TAFE NSW Degrees website

Completion of this course requires you to successfully complete 24 subjects (240 credit points) made up of 21 core subjects and 3 elective subjects.

Standard entry requirements

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSApplicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission:- a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent OR- a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate OR- a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above OR- the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent study at university or accredited higher education institution.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSApplicants who are invited to attend a pre-admission interview will be required to provide the following additional information to support their application for entry to this program:- sit a design test- submit a 500 word essay, and- submit a portfolio of design and art work. The portfolio will require you to showcase 8 - 12 examples of art/design related work that demonstrate your creative talent.SPECIAL ADMISSIONSIf you do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements for this course, you may be able to apply for entry into this course based on mature age or disadvantage. Contact the course coordinator for details of evidence that you should attach to your application.INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTSInternational applicants must meet proof of eligibility and course entry requirements. In addition, international applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency at a minimum IELTS level of 6.5 with a minimum level of 6 in any one band.
