Rural Training Australia

This qualification is part of the Racing Training Package. It applies to employees who are independently engaged or employed to exercise thoroughbred horses on the instruction of a trainer. These employees work independently with limited supervision in a defined range of varied contexts that may be complex and non-routine.

No minimum education


19 units: 16 core; 3 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices; Apply first aid; Comply with the rules of racing and related protocols; Achieve requirements for industry induction; Manage personal health and fitness; Handle horses; Communicate in the workplace; Assist with transportation of horses; Perform basic riding tasks; Develop riding skills for flatwork; Perform stable duties; plus more. Electives: Communicate electronically; Deal with conflict; Attend horses at race meetings and trials; Implement stable operations; Implement feeding programs for racehorses under direction; plus more.


This qualification is required for industry licensing and registration in some states and territories. The qualification is suited to Australian apprenticeship pathways.
