Become an IT specialist and play a pivotal role in developing technology infrastructures while supporting the people who use them. The program is developed with industry partners to reflect current IT trends and prepare you for large-scale software application development. You can specialise in key areas, such as app programming, business apps, cloud computing, mobile computing, multimedia design, system administration and more, while your final semester project simulates working in industry. Understanding IT theory and practice, combined with hands-on expertise from your industry placement, you'll graduate knowing how to manage technology requirements for organisations and businesses of all sizes. You'll become a problem solver, supporting, troubleshooting and designing web sites and other business applications, selecting the right hardware and software products, while also installing, adapting and providing ongoing maintenance for these applications.

Entry Requirements:

Current Year 12 prerequisites units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 20 in mathematics (any) and a study score of at least 25 in any English (except EAL) or at least 30 in English (EAL).


During this program you'll take courses from a variety of streams before specialising or continuing as a generalist. Years 1 and 2-You'll study the fundamentals of IT systems and programming while introducing some information technology electives. Year 3-You'll study Software Engineering Project Management while having the option of a programming capstone project and further specialisation through electives.

Study Pathways:

Graduates of the RMIT Associate Degree in Information Technology who achieve a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 are guaranteed entry with two years' credit (equivalent to 192 credit points). Please note that the amount of time required to complete the program may exceed one year due to the availability and sequencing of some major electives and is also dependent on which semester you commence the program.


This program is accredited at the professional level by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), which accredits information and communication technology related programs that are offered by Australian universities, both onshore and offshore. ACS has reciprocal membership agreements worldwide. ACS Certified Professional status gives you global recognition.
